Prominent Ear Aesthetics (Otoplasty)
Contrary to what seems to be the main problem at the ears, the ear is not large, but the parts of the ears that should be curled are flat. This results in a larger than normal angle between the ear lobe and head. The ear is curled forward. Especially the upper part of the ear lobe is smoother than normal. You should decide with your physician if you are a suitable patient for this operation after a physical examination carried out by your physician.
Unlike all other aesthetic operations, Prominent Ear Aesthetics can be done in pre-school age. The ear development of a child of 6 years old is largely completed. A child in these ages will be protected from being psychologically traumatized at school by being treated before the school begins. Prominent Ear Operation can be applied for all age groups after 6 years as well.
This operation is usually performed under hospital conditions and under local anesthesia. It can also be applied under sedation or general anesthesia depending on the age and wish of the patient. The average duration of operation is 1.5 hours. After surgery, the patient may leave the hospital on the same day. The first 2-3 days after surgery, there is a medical dressing that closes the patient’s ears. After this medical dressing is taken away, the patient uses a printed bandage (tennis bandage) for about 20 days on average.
